  • Aluminum Production at Record Level!

China's primary aluminum production in 2023 is set to reach a record, but the data shows that growth slowed due to weather-related production disruptions at smelters in the country's southwest.

China produced 41.59 million tons of primary aluminum last year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

However, the data showed that the annual growth rate of 3.7% marked a third consecutive slowdown.

State-backed research institute Antaike said in a report that production increased moderately in 2023 as capacity nears the ceiling set by the government and power outages hit the country's southwest.

The data showed that China produced 3.59 million tons in December, up 4.9% from a year earlier.

Output of 10 non-ferrous metals, including copper, aluminum, lead, zinc and nickel, is set to rise 7.1% in 2023 to a record 74.7 million tons.

Production increased by 7.3% compared to the previous year, reaching 6.59 million tons in December.
